Rameshwaram
January 2015 was a very special month for me. Especially from a spiritual aspect. I completed daily reciting Thirupallandu, Thirupallieazhuchi, and Thirupaavai on all days without any break, during this entire Margazhi Maadham ( 30 days of month of Margazhi). Margazhi is Tamil (Thamizh) month starting from mid-december to mid-january, ending the day before most auspicious day of "Thaii Pongal". This daily recital without any break as well as following some more discipline, is definitely records of sorts for me. There were 2 more spiritual endeavour that I undertook this month and felt satisfied the way I did it and lastly felt blessed as well.
Next biggest 2 spiritual endeavor involved visiting the shiva temple in Rameshwaram and also performing a small pooja to the sun god on the account of Ratha Saptami. I did both - well and more.
I went to seek blessings of the lord Shiva in Rameshwaram. The name of the lord god here in this coastal town of Rameshwaram is Shri Ramanathaswamy. This Ramanathaswamy temple is one of constellation of 9 primary Shiva temples otherwise known as one among the Jothir Lingams. This temple is the southern most temple among the constellation and is generally regarded as and spoken widely, next important temple to the "Kaashi Vishwanathaswamy" in Varanasi. More about the temple later. Let's see some pics..
Here it is, in all its glory, the first and foremost of contemporary engineering marvel of India - The one and only Pamban bridge.
I was watching this awesome Pamban bridge from much more elevated and newly constructed road-bridge. It is really breathtaking.
This bridge is so strong, for the last 60+ years, the waves of Bay of Bengal is tirelessly banging it to break it and many times a year, the sea also takes support of cyclones and other storms to do the damage, but all were in vain, till date. Hearty pranam and thanks to Dr.E.Shridharan - 'The Engineer' and to all his teammates and construction workers, behind this man-made marvel.
This bridge opens up to let bigger ships to pass by.
I am just imagining what will I do, how will I feel and what will I experience, if this 'plush' blue-colored tin-can is my office and daily work place. This is manned bridge. We can railway workers walking across the bridge 'casually' to detect and fix anything that needs a 'treatment'.
The railway line is in usage and there more than 20 different trains running per day in both directions connecting the island Rameshwaram with Indian mainland.
